How to have a Twilight-themed day in Forks, Washington

12 min

The Twilight Saga took the world by storm from 2005 onwards, with four main books (Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn) and movies to match.

Since then, millennials have had a soft spot for this indie series that grew from cult following to major fanbase. Think Harry Potter level of fandom, but with vampires and werewolves! Since then, two more books came out: Life and Death in 2015 and Midnight Sun in 2020. Also, Netflix adopted the movie series, which caused an influx of fans from newer generations.

The story of the vampire who falls in love with a regular girl takes place in Forks, Washington, a small town that was, and is, known as the cloudiest and rainiest place in the continental US. It suited Stephanie Myer's plot of a vampire clan choosing this town to avoid the sun. Throughout the book, places in this small town are referenced. Also, the Quileute Indian Reservation borders Forks and is a huge part of the series, with main character werewolf Jacob Black being a part of the tribe.

Nowadays, this quaint town has embraced the Twilight fandom by creating photo ops and even hosting a Twilight fan convention every year in September, with special guests such as the author herself, as well as actors and actresses from the film!

I live in the East Coast, so I never imagined I would get the chance to visit Forks, Washington. However, my husband had a work trip in Seattle, which is only three and a half hours away from Forks by car. So I knew I had to take the opportunity to make my teen heart swell with joy and nostalgia. You must rent a car if you are visiting from out-of-state, there are no Ubers here!

I went a little extra with this weekend trip! I had us dress like Edward and Bella, I booked a photoshoot and even reenacted scenes from the films! (See in my vlog above.) I wanted to see every sight from this series that I loved so much.

Must-see Twilight Destinations in Forks, Washington

(with addresses, operation hours and town map)

Forks Town map provided by Native to Twilight. (With a few minor edits by me)

For this list, I'm going in the order they are featured in my Forks vlog above.

(Note: for the actual movie locations you'd have to also travel to Oregon and Canada as many scenes were filmed there.)

Welcome to Forks Sign

Address: HWY 101 N Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

I was so ecstatic when I saw this sign driving into the town! I finally made it to the place Bella and Edward met! Here are some tips and notes for visiting the sign:

  1. Go early to avoid lines: There may be a small line to take photos. We visited the sign first thing at 9am and there were no lines! Only one or two helpful people that took our photo.

  2. Don't bother with a tripod: This sign is located on top of a small hill, tripods won't balance on this hill. In fact, I set mine up and it fell over and shattered my phone case! Thankfully, my camera was okay.

Forks Chamber of Commerce (Bella's Trucks)

Address: 1411 S Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

This building has everything you need to know about the town. If you visit during opening hours (see below), then they can provide you a map and answer any questions you have.

BUT the main draw to this spot is the "Bella Trucks" set up outside for visitors. There are two red trucks with "Bella" license plates!

We didn't go during opening hours, but we found all the information (including a helpful map) on the Fork's town website. The trucks are available to photograph even during closing hours. I would recommend going early to avoid the crowds for photos!

Hours:

Mon-Sat 10am-5pm (Closes at 4pm during the winter)

Sun 11am-4pm

Forks Chamber of Commerce Bella Trucks

The Swan House (Bella's House)

Address: 775 K St, Forks, WA 98331

Recognized by the Forks Chamber of Commerce as the real-life, book-accurate home of Charlie and Bella Swan, this house is the same one described in the novels and highlighted in The Twilight Saga: The Official Illustrated Guide.

A must-see for fans wanting to experience the story. Inside are details from the movie and story, including a replication of Bella's room and other Twilight-themed stays. See details on their website.

We didn't stay here because it is expensive! But for super fans who want the full experience it sounds like a lot of fun! If you're taking pictures and videos like I did, just beware not to get actual guests of the house in your shots and don't park in the facility driveway.

The Cullen House or The Miller Tree Inn (Book Accurate)

Address: 654 E Division St, Forks, WA 98331

The Miller Tree Inn is recognized as the “Cullen House” in Forks. It may not mirror the movie version, but it aligns closely with Stephenie Meyer’s description of the Cullens’ home. The innkeepers know their Twilight lore and are instructed to take extra-special care of Twilight fans! We just explored outside the house, and the same rules apply as the Swan House:

  1. Don't step on the porch

  2. Don't park in the driveway

  3. Don't get residents and guests in your photography and film!

Forks Town Staples (with Twilight Signage)

I'm combining these together because they are real parts of this small town that include some sort of Twilight signage.

Forks High School

Address: 261 Spartan Ave, Forks, WA 98331

This is the high school where the characters attend in the books!

The high school where characters Bella and Edward attended.

Forks Police Station:

e 98331, 480 E Division St, Forks, WA 98331

There is a small Twilight exhibit near the building and a cruiser parked outside for photographs.

Forks Community Hospital:

530 Bogachiel Way, Forks, WA 98331

Where vampire doctor and "father" of Edward Carlisle Cullen works! They have a parking spot sign in his honor.

We only went to the high school because we were running short on time. But they are very quick sights and are good if you can squeeze them in!

Three Rivers Resort (Treaty Line Sign)

This resort is located between the town of Forks and The Quileute Indian Reservation. In the story, the vampires and the werewolves have a treaty where they don't step in each other's territory. The resort has honored this part of the story by setting up a "No Vampires Beyond this Point" sign, as well as a "Vampire Threat Level" sign.

A very cool and must-see spot on your Twilight trip! What's great about this resort is that it's also a campground with discounted rates for staying with your own van or trailer. Check availability and pricing on their website here.

They also have their own restaurant, shop, are closer to La Push beach than Forks, and are reasonably priced, so staying here would be a great alternative to the other themed Airbnb's listed above.

La Push Beach! (Werewolf beach)

This was our favorite spot of the whole trip! We couldn't believe how stunning it was! La Push beach is the hangout spot of the Werewolves of the the Quileute tribe. Bella's school friends invite her to a gathering here with the famous line "La Push baby, it's La Push" said by character Eric Yorkie.

La Push beach is a part of the Olympic National Forest, so the natural beauty is unmatched. There are three access points to this beach: La Push Beach #1, La Push Beach #2 and La Push Beach #3. The trail we went on, and the beach we saw in my video, was beach two.

Second Beach La Push Trail

Address to trail parking: Olympic Discovery Trail, La Push, WA 98350

The trailhead lies 14 miles (22.4 km) west of US 101 on La Push Road, within the Quileute Indian Reservation. This short 0.7-mile (1.1 km) hike meanders through lush forest, then descends 200 feet (61 meters) to a sandy shoreline dotted with towering sea stacks and vibrant tide pools.

Here are some tips for visiting Second Beach of La Push

  1. Start early so you can hike back before nightfall: When we went, sunset was 4:30pm. Even though the hike isn't too long, it's somewhat tricky to maneuver, which means it takes longer both ways. We just barely made it back before dark!

  2. Prepare for mud: As I mentioned, Forks is the rainiest town! So this trail WILL have mud on it! I wore rain boots and tucked my pants it to protect them.

  3. Don't go in the water: Firstly, it's cold so you probably wouldn't want to swim. BUT the waves are HUGE!! These are surf level waves that could easily take you under. I suggest admiring them from afar.

The pictures don't do it justice! Watch my vlog for cascading views of this gorgeous sandy oasis!

La Push Second Beach

Forever Twilight in Forks Collections (Twilight Museum)

Address: Rainforest Arts Center, 35 N Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

This is a FREE Twilight museum with real artifacts and clothing from the movie sets! It's the world’s largest collection of Twilight Saga props and costumes!

Unfortunately, their winter hours are limited so we couldn't attend, but if you visit during the summer then you must go! Also you can't just walk in during the open hours, you have to book a time slot starting at a half hour before opening. No online reservations.

For more information about hours and scheduling, see their website here.

Native to Twilight (Town Gift Shop)

Address: 10 N Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

A good replacement for the FTF collection is this quirky gift shop. You can satisfy your craving to see movie props here because this store also has some real clothing from the movies, including Bella's prom dress and Jacob's classic tee with khaki shorts. There's also fun photo props throughout the store that provide much hilarity. (See below!)

Native to Twilight Store - Jacob gets a smooch from Edward and Bella!

A bonus is that the store clerks are very knowledgable about the saga and how it connects to the town. The cashier that was there when we went revealed that she met Stephanie Myers multiple times! She also explained how, when the movie was filmed, there weren't enough hotels to host the whole crew, which is why they chose Oregon to film many of the scenes. The Canadian tax breaks were another reason to film elsewhere.

The town map I showed at the top of this blog was provided by this shop (with a few teaks from me). We had lots of fun here! They are open daily from 9am to 7pm. We went at night after our daytime activities were done and it was a perfect way to end our Twilight Day!

Other Great Spots!

These locations aren't book-related, but they were either helpful or fun to visit during our stay:

Town Motel

Address: 1080 S Forks Ave Forks Washington 98331

https://townmotelforks.com/

We stayed here and it was perfect for a short weekend stay. It's one of the more reasonably priced options in the area and it's family-owned and run. There was a small hiccup with our reservation, but the father-son duo took care of it swiftly. I would recommend staying here or at the 3 Rivers Resort that I mentioned above.

Blakeslees Bar and Grill

Address: 1222 S Forks Ave, Forks, WA 98331

https://www.facebook.com/bbgforkswa

I needed a burger so I could replicate the famous Bella shaking ketchup scene where the actress pretends to be using ketchup on her burger and nothing comes out! So I searched for a casual restaurant and found this place. They had a great veggie burger and veggie wrap for Cedric and I to eat. PLUS they had a themed vampire drink that came with fangs! Perfect!

Elk Creek Conservation Area

Address: 2290 Calawah Way #2156, Forks, WA 98331

https://northolympiclandtrust.org/our-work/projects/elk-creek-conservation-area/

This is where we had our twilight themed photoshoot with photographer Jordan Sylvia. It's a beautiful woodsy area with many hoa-hoa trees to photograph. We didn't do the full 3-mile loop of this trail, but we did get to explore while we were doing our best Edward and Bella poses!
