How we got a FREE resort stay in Bali! (And how you can too!)

3 minIndonesia

Clear pool waters, drinks by the lounge, palm trees and forest surround you. You've landed in Bali and, what do you know, your resort fee has been comped! Keep reading and watch the video above to find out how you too can get a free resort stay in Bali!

It all started during our travels when a man in a Karma uniform approached us and offered a free week-long stay at any Karma resort in Indonesia in exchange for listening to a 60 minute presentation about their group membership program. Timeshare or membership presentations in exchange for lodging is a common practice by companies around the world. We’ve never tried it before but we were previously lodging in hostels and were yearning for some luxury! After confirming this employee and offer were legitimate, we took them up on the deal.

For the presentation, we were picked up and transported to Karma's main headquarters in Denpasar, Bali. Many other travelers were there for this same promotion opportunity. We were all fed breakfast as we listened to the 60 minute presentation. Then we were paired with a sales representative that tried to get us to join their membership program. Cedric and I stayed strong and politely declined. After that we did, in fact, receive a voucher for a 7 day stay at any Karma resort in Indonesia! At the time, we chose the Karma Mayura in Ubud Bali because that was the next region in our travels we wanted to explore. This specific location is no longer a part of the Karma Experience group. But this promotion is still offered by the Karma group and they have four other beautiful resorts in Bali, Indonesia.

The resort now goes by the name Mayura Ubud Retreat. As you can see in the video, the location is beautiful, has delicious food and a stunning infinity pool that overlooks a forest of palm trees. There are even fun activities at this resort, such as Balinese dance classes from the staff. Although they aren't with the Karma Experience group anymore, they still offer great deals and I would highly recommend staying with them.

For us, the Karma complimentary stay promotion was a good deal because we were headed to Ubud anyways and needed a place to stay. But as an honest travel vlogger, I must tell you the cons of this promotion. Although breakfast was included with the deal, other food, drink, speciality transportation and daily taxes were not included in the stay. In total we did end up paying $350 USD, but that made the place only $50 USD a day, which is the equivalent of a cheap motel stay in America. So we still loved it! A large portion of this payment was specialty transport we arranged to the Gili Islands, which is what my videos this summer will showcase on the Deanna Troy Travels YouTube channel!
